Webometrics
Webometrics is a web ranking of universities in the world. Its presence in several circles in Indonesia has been misinterpreted as ranking universities in the world. So that the motivation and philosophy of the initiator becomes blurred which the purpose of webometrics is to promote the website to promote Web publications. Supporting the Open Access initiative, electronic access to scientific publications and other academic materials are the main targets of the webometrics itself. However, web indicators are very useful for ranking purposes as well as they are not based on the number of visits or page design but also on the performance and global visibility of the university.
Dr. (h.c.) Isidro F. Aguillo, one of the Webometrics Initiators stated, Webometrics Ranking has a greater coverage than similar rankings. This ranking focuses not only on research results but also on other indicators that may reflect the global quality of undergraduate and research institutions around the world. Webometric intends to motivate institutions and scientists to have a web presence that accurately reflects their activities. If an institution's web performance falls below the expected position according to their academic excellence, university authorities should reconsider their web policies, increasing the volume and quality of their electronic publications substantially. For this reason, wisdom and the willingness of all university elements such as lecturers, employees and students are needed to be willing to make scientific works and upload them in electronic publications on the university website. So that each of them must be responsible for the content they publish.
